    Shenley school celebrates Ofsted result
Top marks: headteacher John Dibdin with Shenley Primary School pupils
Top marks: headteacher John Dibdin with Shenley Primary School pupils

Staff and pupils at Shenley Primary School were celebrating this week after being awarded a 'good' classification following its latest Ofsted inspection.

Inspectors visited the London Road school on April 17 and awarded it the second highest level of achievement in all categories.

Headmaster John Dibdin said he was "delighted" with the result which he put down to the "hard work and dedication" of staff and more than 300 pupils during the past three years.

Among the areas deemed 'good' at the school were: achievement and standards, personal development and wellbeing, and leadership and management.

The inspectors' report said good progress had been made and "a clear sense of direction" is provided by Mr Dibdin.

It added: "Pupils are enthusiastic about the good range of learning and other activities provided for them. They help and support each other well and take a keen interest in what is going on around them."

Mr Dibdin said: "At Shenley, we share a clear vision of the standard of learning opportunities that we aim to provide for our children.

"We have high expectations of academic success, but also value other areas of achievement, such as in the performing arts and sports.

"The culture here is very positive and we encourage children to be confident contributors to their community. Parents are also encouraged to be involved with the school as much as possible."

He said he shared the ambition of his staff to move on from the "positive platform" to reach the 'outstanding' classification in the future.

  • Meanwhile, a Borehamwood school governor is to be rewarded after 16 years' service to schools in the town.

Tim Sandle has been a governor at Kenilworth Primary School, in Kenilworth Drive, since 1992. He will be given his award at a Hertfordshire County Council ceremony in Wheathampstead on May 20.

Mr Sandle was also one of the founding governors of Hertswood School, in Thrift Farm Lane.

He said: "Serving as a school governor is a very rewarding experience. Governors can assist a school in many ways, particularly in bringing in outside expertise.

"As someone who works in industry I hope that some of these skills have helped the schools that I have been involved with.

"I would encourage anyone with a little spare time and a passion for education to become involved as a school governor. It is an enriching experience."

Congratulations to everyone at Shenley Primary.
My children are both pupils there and it is a lovely school.
Everyone works really hard to make it nice, so well done to everyone.
