Hertsmere plays its part in Youth Games

Children from Hertsmere took part in the popular Herts Youth Games at the Hertfordshire Sports Village in Hatfield over the weekend.

About 2,000 young athletes from ten local authorities did battle in 20 events over two days.

Sports included athletics, football, badminton, netball, hockey, rugby and archery.

The annual competition, which has been staged for the past 14 years, again proved to be a big hit. Though the children went all out to win their particular event, the emphasis, as always, was on taking part. The ultimate aim of the Games is to encourage more children to take part in sport.

Hurdler Colin Jackson once again gave his support to the competition.

For details on how to get involved in next year's event and for more information about sport in the county, go to www.sportinherts.org.uk
